Covers natural gas handling from the production field to process plant operations to achieve marketable products that meet desired product specifications; emphasis is placed on field handling equipment and separation procedures, removal of impurities, plant operations processes, and effective process plant surveillance to achieve optimum, economical operating performance. Participants receive classroom instruction, classroom exercises, handouts, a GPSA Engineering Data book, and two PETEX books:

Those attending only one week will receive the PETEX manuals that are appropriate for that week.

1st Week–Field Handling of Natural Gas

  • Characteristics of natural gas
  • Natural gas production
  • Natural gas and liquid separation
  • Hydrates
  • Dehydration of natural gas
  • Gas conditioning
  • Compressors and prime movers
  • Instruments and controls
  • Measurement of natural gas and gas liquids
  • Plant surveillance and optimization

2nd Week–Plant Processing of Natural Gas

  • Fundamentals
  • Feed gas receiving and condensate stabilization
  • Dew-point control and refrigeration systems
  • Hydrocarbon treating
  • Sulfur recovery and Claus off-gas treating
  • Dehydration and mercury removal
  • NGL recovery–Lean-oil absorption
  • NGL recovery–Cryogenic
  • Fractionation and liquid treating
  • Nitrogen rejection unit (NRU)
