Pre-AP Middle School Science for New and Experienced Pre-AP Teachers

This course will give participants the skills they will need to build a Pre-AP middle school science program or improve an existing one. Participants will be exposed to a variety of inexpensive labs that support the development of AP skills and will learn the benefits of using technology in the classroom for completing lab work, researching interdisciplianry projects and performing field studies. The course will be highly interactive and will be specialized toward participants that attend in order to make it as beneficial as possible for all involved. We are going paperless this year, so make sure you bring your technology as this course is completely web-based.

What participants should bring:
• Favorite hands-on activity, lab, webquest, or project to adapt and share, electronic copy preferred • Favorite internet or app based resourses for class activities • Laptop, notepad, smart phone or other smart device

Consultant: Shawn O’Hara

Shawn O’Hara has been teaching in the Lewisville Independent School District for the past 9 years. She spent 8 years at Creek Valley Middle School teaching Pre-AP and general 8th grade science and this year moved up to Harmon High School to teach 10th grade Pre-AP and general chemistry. Shawn was the Secondary Teacher of the Year for the Lewisville ISD in 2006-2007 and has been consulting for The College Board for the past 6 years. Prior to earning her teaching certificate Ms. O’Hara spent 13 years as a geologist, project manager and remediation specialist for various parties in the environmental industry.
