:: Earn UT Austin Credit as Quickly as You Need It
Starting September 1, 2009, all UEX independent study online courses will be offered as five month courses. These shorter, faster online courses will allow students to progress quickly and consistently through their coursework. Studies show that fast student progress and strong instructor engagement are factors in student completion success.
Benefits and Improvements
- Strong student – instructor interaction. Students can submit up to three assignments right away, then advance to the next assignment as soon as they receive instructor feedback on previous work, with no arbitrary weekly limits. Instructors are committed to responding to all assignments within three business days.
- Technological improvements. No more mail-based assignments slowing down the process. All assignments are electronic submissions. Our course system will allow students to submit new work as soon as previous work is graded.
- Students set the pace. Motivated students can finish coursework within a month or two, then have 30 days to take their final exam. Final exams will be graded within seven business days.
Five month online courses will be open for registration through our regular online registration link starting September 1, 2009. Questions before you register? Contact us at uex@austin.utexas.edu or call us at (512) 471-2900.
Students, advisors, and administrators familiar with our program should be aware of some policy changes that will go in effect with these courses on September 1. Complete policies will be posted by September 1. Some of the main policy highlights include:
- A student will have five months from enrollment date to complete coursework, including all assignments and any midterm exams. Once coursework has been completed, including midterm(s) graded, the student will have 30 days to take the final exam.
- Students will still have options in acquiring an extension if they need more time as their five month deadline approaches. A one-time unrestricted four month extension will be available, as will a one-time one month extension for those students who have 80% or more of their coursework completed.
- Students may no longer “reinstate” their course if they allow it to expire.
- Drop and transfer deadline is 15 days from enrollment date.
