UEX Instructor Honored at McCombs Reception
Dean Bredeson, senior lecturer in the McCombs School of Business and instructor with University Extension (UEX), has been named the McCombs School’s top instructor for fall 2008 as determined by the Undergraduate Business Council (UBC) and the Undergraduate Programs Office (UPO). Bredeson was among eight faculty members honored in the school’s biannual faculty honor roll. The honor roll, sponsored by UBC and UPO and based on student surveys, recognizes faculty for outstanding teaching performance and commitment to student learning.
Bredeson, along with seven other instructors, received this honor from Dean Thomas Gilligan of the McCombs School at a March 23rd reception. At the same event, Bredeson accepted a $1,000 grant from Lockheed Martin in recognition of receiving the highest Course-Instructor Survey ratings. Bredeson also won the Lockheed Martin Award in 2007. To qualify for the honor roll, faculty members must receive an average rating of at least 4.7 on a 5-point scale from a minimum of 10 student surveys.
In addition to his duties in the McCombs School of Business, Bredeson is also a business instructor for University Extension, a component of Continuing and Innovative Education at The University of Texas at Austin.
“I am so pleased that Dean has been awarded this honor for the second year in a row,” says Jo Anne Shea, associate dean of Continuing Education and director of University Extension. “I’m also pleased that students taking courses with University Extension will be able to learn from such an outstanding instructor. I’m delighted that students realize what a tremendous asset Dean Bredeson is to our institution.”
Bredeson, who holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Doctorate in Jurisprudence from the University, has received several teaching awards, including the Texas Exes award in 2004, the Harkins Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Education in 2002, the Undergraduate Teaching Excellence Award in 2001, and the Alpha Kappa Psi Best Professor Award in 2001 and 1997.
In fall 2008, Bredeson taught classes on the legal environment of business and on business ethics. He regularly teaches LEB 320F - Foundations of the Legal Environment of Business for University Extension.
