Texas Music Scholar Teaches for UEX

Dr. Jason Mellard grew up listening to artists like Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings. He took a detour into rock during his adolescence, but eventually came home again to study the cultural impact of his first love: Texas music.

Today, Dr. Mellard teaches courses on Texas music for University Extension (UEX), the UT Odyssey program and Texas State University.

Registration is now open for Dr. Mellard’s Fall 2012 UEX course AMS 321 - Cosmic Cowboys, Armadillos, and Outlaws: Austin Music History, which begins meeting the week of September 4.

In this video interview, filmed when he was just beginning to teach for UT Odyssey, Dr. Mellard discusses how Texas music influenced him.
