Innovative Online Psychology Course Offered for Fall
When PSY’s “Gangnam Style” swept YouTube, garnering more likes than any previous video, Dr. Sam Gosling and Dr. Jamie Pennebaker looked past the dance moves to the psychology behind the craze. Gosling and Pennebaker are professors in the Department of Psychology at The University of Texas at Austin. “Psychology’s everywhere,” they say. And understanding what it means can change the way you think. The two world-class professors, and funny-men, bring their unique spin on psychology to University Extension’s fall catalogue: it’s PSY 301 - Introduction to Psychology as you’ve never seen it before.
This brand new online course is unlike any offered at the university to date, with innovative structure and content. This fall’s PSY 301 lectures will broadcast live at set times each week, so you can ask questions or react to the material, in real-time, through interactive chat rooms. By logging in, you have exclusive access to the banter and discussion no matter where you are.
The innovative online structure is a perfect match for the course’s unique content. Gosling and Pennebaker assign readings from “a very unusual form of textbook”: relevant articles and trending videos made freely available online. Instead of a midterm or final exam, PSY 301 features specially calibrated benchmark quizzes that make up the bulk of the final grade. That’s right, there are no conventional exams.
“It’s a very different kind of class than any you might have taken before,” Dr. Pennebaker says in the course introduction.
Don’t miss out on this unique way to look at the science behind psychology. Who knows? It just might change the way you think.
The deadline to register to receive credit was 3 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3. You can still register to audit the course, for no credit.
