The University of Texas at Austin
Semester in Los Angeles Program
The University of Texas at Austin Semester in Los Angeles (UTLA) Program offers a unique opportunity for students who are serious about exploring the entertainment industry over the course of an academic semester in Los Angeles, California.
Credit earned through University Extension, a component of the Division of Continuing & Innovative Education, may be applied toward degree credit at the university or at another institute of higher education. Non-UT Austin students should consult an academic advisor, department chair, dean or provost at their home institution to learn the transfer policies of their school before applying to the UTLA program. (Please note that registration in UTLA does not constitute regular admission to The University of Texas at Austin.)
While participating in the UTLA program, students are required to maintain full-time enrollment status. Full-time enrollment for undergraduate students represents a minimum of 4 courses (12 hours) during fall or spring semesters, or 3 courses (9 hours) during the summer. Full-time enrollment for graduate students represents 3 courses (9 hours) during fall or spring, or 2 courses (6 hours) during the summer. All program participants are required to enroll in the COM350L course, “Communication Internship: Semester in Los Angeles.”
Upon completion of the program, University Extension will issue a grade report for work completed in the UTLA program. Students may also request an official transcript from The University of Texas at Austin (cost: $10) reflecting this credit for course transfer purposes.
