Preparing for a Future in Business
Just a few months ago, Tyler Harrison earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from The University of Texas at Austin. But long before he walked across the stage, he had begun thinking about his career prospects and preparing to return to school.
As a liberal arts major with aspirations toward a graduate degree in marketing and a career in business, Tyler took additional courses to earn the Business Foundations Certificate (BFC).
Designed by the McCombs School of Business, the BFC provides a thorough foundation in business concepts and practices. Through University Extension (UEX), business foundations courses are available to both non-business students like Tyler looking to broaden their job prospects after graduation and to working professionals interested in expanding their knowledge and enhancing their resumes.
Tyler took FIN 320F - Foundations of Finance with UEX in the evenings, to help fill the requirements for the BFC. “I really enjoyed the three hour, once a week class schedule because it allowed us to really discuss each topic in-depth,” Tyler said. “The professors were very willing to help the students learn the material and were very interested in the students progression throughout the course.”
For others considering the BFC, Tyler advises, “from planning for retirement to marketing yourself as a person, these courses provide information that is beneficial for everyone, regardless of whether or not you decide to go into business.”
