Ways to Give
For over 100 years, the Division of Continuing and Innovative Education (CIE) has worked to fulfill its mission of making The University of Texas at Austin a resource for all people—in Texas and beyond. We do this to both transform individual lives and to promote economic development in Austin and around the state. Your investment in CIE is an investment in the dreams of our wide range of students—each with their own goals of earning a degree, starting a business or simply improving the quality of their life.
CIE is a cost recovery unit. What this means is that all of our programs must pay for themselves. We are rightfully proud of our financial stewardship and the fact that our customers value what we do enough to pay the modest tuition we charge.
But, if CIE is to grow, reach even more people and keep our programs affordable, we need to build a community of donors—individuals, foundations, corporations and more. To achieve these goals, CIE is actively seeking charitable donations and in-kind support.
The CIE Strategic Investment Fund was established in 2010 to provide an ongoing funding source to develop new, innovative programs. CIE has provided seed funding, but is seeking lead investors and individual donors to help us reach our $1 million fundraising goal.
Every gift matters, no matter how big or small. Your gift will help us continue our long tradition of creating opportunities for educational and economic growth in Texas, and now the world. Your gift, in the form and for the purpose you choose, plays a crucial role in ensuring students have every opportunity to fulfill their dreams and to succeed.
Annual Giving can take the form of a gift given once a year for a set number of years. Or, you may choose to make a more ongoing, sustaining gift. You also have the ability to select what area or program of CIE you wish to support.
We invite you to take a look at our 2011 Annual Report to explore CIE’s wide range of offerings. In it, you will find inspiring stories of how students beat the odds to achieve their dreams, build inspiring careers or simply love to learn. These stories illustrate just how important your gift to CIE can be to help make dreams of learning, growing and improving come true. You can make the difference in the lives of those in the most need.
- Your gift can help a migrant worker earn a diploma and gain access to a better life.
- Your gift can help a student, unable to fit into traditional schools, get the necessary attention and education they need to find independence.
- Your gift can help working people gain the skills and insight they need to advance their careers, or even establish their own businesses, and contribute to our economy.
- Your gift can help Austin’s senior community stake out their own space at the university and continue to stay active and keep learning.
- Program Endowments and Excellence Funds support excellence in specific or general programs. The minimum gift levels range from $25,000 to $50,000.
- Chairs and Professorships are awarded to deans, department chairs, and outstanding faculty. These endowments are crucial to the University’s efforts to recruit and retain highly qualified teachers, researchers, and administrators. Gift levels range from $150,000 to $1.5 million.
We welcome any opportunity to speak with you to ensure your gift fulfills your own personal goals or wishes for how it is used. One thing that you can always be sure of is that your gift to CIE fulfills big dreams.
Endowments are gifts with long lives. With an endowed gift, you provide permanent support for CIE. Your gift is invested — never spent — and each year a distribution, like dividends on a mutual fund account, is made to your chosen program or area. Investment earnings above the dividend rate help the endowment value grow over time, to keep pace with inflation and maintain your endowment’s spending power.
There are many endowment opportunities and funding levels available. You can choose what your endowed gift will support. With our diverse portfolio to choose from, you could be helping high school students to graduate, professionals in our community gain more competitive skills or migrant students create a new life.
You may take up to five years to fund an endowment and, once it is officially established, you or anyone else may continue to add to its principal at any time. Moreover, by selecting the title of your endowment, you can forever link your name, or that of a family member, friend, or organization, to this life transforming legacy.
Various types of endowments are listed below, but endowments can cover other purposes that may fall outside of these general categories:
