Jennifer Crager
Director of Customer Service
Arrowhead Electronic Healthcare
Two-year UTCPE Examiner

"In my list of work objectives, I list being an examiner for UTCPE as both work towards my quality goals within the company and also my community service in the Austin business community. Being part of this program has given me focus on what I need to do within my job, has made me more aware of a bigger 'quality' picture in my company and in dealing with other companies, and has taught me a lot about working with teams."

"Being a Baldrige Examiner for UTCPE has been a new beginning for me since I started my Baldrige journey seven years ago. The knowledge I have gained through this experience has sparked an awakening in me, and it has helped me realize that there is so much of this process that I want to extend to my classroom teaching. Not only was the project rewarding personally but it also left me valuable time this past summer to still be an active mother to my two children."

Assistant Principal
Ridgeview Middle School

"Baldrige examiners begin their training as seeds with the desire to grow by obtaining knowledge for organizational understanding.

As seedlings we grow from instruction by practicing techniques necessary to provide beneficial feedback to Baldrige applicants.

During the final process, examiners now blossom with knowledge and are able to begin sharing their seeds of instruction enabling them to be champions of the Baldrige process."

Robert J. Bodisch
Bureau Chief
CPATT-ICITAP
Senior Law Enforcement Advisor
Minister of Interior
Baghdad, Iraq
December 14, 2005

"I attended UTCPE Examiner Training in 2004. I have been in Iraq for the past 12 months and am currently assigned as the Senior Law Enforcement Advisor to the Minister of Interior (MOI). The MOI is responsible for over 214,000 national police personnel. In August I realized that no one, State Department or Dept. of Defense, had ever conducted a comprehensive assessment to determine the current status of the MOI in terms of effectiveness and performance. I downloaded the Baldrige criteria for business and developed a Comprehensive Assessment Plan which was subsequently adopted and approved by the U. S. Embassy, Dept. of Defense, Dept. of State and Dept. of Justice.

We have been in the field since November 1 and expect to complete our assessment around January 15th. Unfortunately, I end my mission here on 20 December so my team will finish the assessment without my physical presence; however, I will continue to assist and supervise from Texas until the project is completed. The results of this assessment will be included in the military’s 5 Year Plan for Iraq. I mention all of this because the training I received at The University of Texas in Baldrige enabled me to develop and conduct this vital assessment so that the U. S. government will know where the MOI is today and what we need to do to move it toward performance excellence. Let me thank you and UT for the great training which has paid many dividends here in Iraq."

"Information Technology at Austin Community College has actively participated in the UTCPE program for the last three years. We have served as examiners, written various levels of applications and implemented feedback report recommendations.

Our self-examination based on Baldrige criteria and participation in the UTCPE process has enabled us to improve our work ethic, our services and our communication both within the department and college-wide. We have seen improvement in our quality of work and our quality of life at work."

Ron Marullo
Former Director of Operations
Green Mountain Energy Company

"As a business process improvement manager, I have found our department's participation in the University of Texas Center for Performance Excellence (UTCPE) program to be an invaluable component of the success of our operations. The Malcolm Baldrige based criteria used in the UTCPE performance excellence awards process provide the framework in which an organization can ask the "right" questions, namely in areas which include: leadership, strategic planning, customer and market focus, performance measurement, human resources and work systems, process management, and business results. Additionally, the UTCPE was an ideal solution for our small service-oriented organization."

Sharon Barnard
Principal
Blackland Prairie Elementary School
Round Rock Independent School District, Texas

"UTCPE participation has helped our campus to unify our faculty, staff, students, parents, and community in achieving performance excellence.

The UTCPE process focuses the staff on using data to identify problems, find solutions and evaluate the effectiveness of those solutions. All students, K-5, track their progress in mastering the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills in a data binder. This tracking process motivates students to take charge of their learning and to celebrate achievement successes along the way.

The UTCPE process provides a framework for a school staff to view the multiple systems in their classroom and campus for the purpose of improving the systems, thus the overall teaching and learning experience."

Colonel Ted White
Commander of the 36th Infantry Division Support Command
Texas Military Forces

"Much of the success the Texas Military Forces have enjoyed in recent years can be related directly to their involvement in programs like The University of Texas Center for Performance Excellence (UTCPE), for they foster a mission focus, organizational learning, adaptability, and continuous improvement. The seven categories of performance excellence enhance the processes that focus on the readiness of the Texas Military Forces to accomplish their State and Federal missions. They help improve the readiness of our units and personnel, and readiness is the bottom line ˆ it is what the taxpayers expect."
