Time Considerations
Completing a K-16 Education Center Distance Course
You have up to nine months from the date of enrollment to complete a course, including taking the final exam (unless they are part of a semester-based program through a school).
You have the flexibility to enroll at a time that is convenient for you and set your own study schedule. If you feel competent and motivated to complete a course quickly, our program allows you to follow an accelerated schedule.
When one course level normally precedes another, enroll in the courses in sequential order.
During holiday periods, semester breaks, or summer break, please note that instructors on vacation are not replaced with substitutes unless the instructor will be away longer than two weeks.
To meet graduation deadlines, keep the following in mind:
- Be sure that all assignments have been turned in and that grades have been awarded for 70 percent of the course assignments ("Incomplete" and "Redo" are not considered awarded grades.) before applying to take the final exam.
- The final exam should be taken at least three weeks prior to the date you need to have the grade recorded in order to allow time for grading and mailing.
When you have a graduation date in mind, time is of the essence. For example, if you plan to graduate in May 2007 and you enroll in a course on Sept. 3, 2006 the following timeline would apply:
September 3, 2006: Enroll in course with plans to graduate in May 2007
March 3, 2007: Final assignment deadline
March 24, 2007: Last day to take the final exam
April 15, 2007: Grades posted and sent to your school
May 2007: Graduation
June 3, 2007: Course expiration date
April, May, and June
All high school seniors graduate in the spring, so it follows that we handle the greatest volume of activity during April, May, and June. Even with careful planning, students often end up with last-minute tasks such as class projects, assignments, or problems that require the attention of instructors and staff. Although we will do all we can to help you graduate on time, please be prepared for delays during this rush period.
