Scoring Center :: Frequently Asked Questions - GED Scoring
Q1) Can I request a copy of my GED?
Due to FERPA regulations regarding student record privacy, we cannot offer score information to individuals, employers, military recruiters, or GED preparation instruction programs. The Scoring Center only reports record information to authorized GED test examiners and state administration offices for verification and data reporting purposes. In order to obtain a copy of a transcript or certificate, individuals must contact their state administrator.
In Texas, contact the Texas Education Agency (www.tea.state.tx.us). In Arkansas, contact the Department of Workforce Education (dwe.arkansas.gov).
Q2) My Online GED (EID) or password is not working. Who do I contact?
A2) The Scoring Center GED database is completely separate from other state GED record systems and we cannot provide web support for those data-bases. Make sure that you are accessing the correct database. Verify that you are not trying to log in to the pre-2002 test series database using your User ID/password combination. If so, you will receive an "invalid logon" error. You need a separate user ID and password to access older records. For the 2002 series test database, you need your University of Texas Electronic ID (EID) and the password created when you, or your Chief Examiner, submitted an online access application to us. If you are applying for the first time, you will receive a temporary password to allow you an initial log on. Once logged on, you can create a permanent password. If you forget this password, please call (512) 471-7211 to have it reset.
Q3) What do I do about duplicate forms?
A3) A duplicate form occurs when a GED examinee retakes a test section using a test form administered previously in the same year. If our system encounters a retest on the same test form twice in a row, we are unable to score it and the test will be held as an error until corrected. There are no exceptions to this rule, but certain language versions of the GED test battery allow the re-use of the same test form if alternated and if the proper time between retests has elapsed. Please consult your GED Examiner's Manual for test administration policy.
Q4) How do I order test materials?
A4) All Texas GED answer documents can be ordered through The Scoring Center. We offer for sale universal transmittal forms for out-of-state use. Fill in our order form with your test center information, using your physical address, and fax it to (512) 471-5636. If you reside in Texas, you should have your order within 2-3 days. Download the order form in PDF format.
Q5) How do I change a name, date of birth, address, or ID for a record?
A5) We prefer that you use an answer form rather than submit an online request for these changes. The scan forms released by GEDTS and The Scoring Center are expressly designed for this purpose and therefore allow our system and the GEDTS database to be updated automatically. When an examinee needs to change his name or address, have him complete the Name/Address Change Form in the English or Spanish version and submit it with his tests. If an examinee is testing for the first time, make sure that the correct name, ID, and address are bubbled on the 2002 Demographic Booklet. To change an ID, please use the ID Change Form in the English or Spanish version and pay special attention to the ID type. In Texas, only a valid social security (type 1) or program-specific (type 4) identification is allowed for GED testers.
Q6) Why do I see a ZZ, l/s, or u/g in place of a score in your online database?
A6) These are error codes. The ZZ code is used to note that a test cannot be scored because the test form could not be determined, or is a duplicate test form and cannot be scored. We include a note regarding which test form the examinee used so that the same form is not repeated. The ZZ code is also used if a center notifies us of a voided test.
The l/s and u/g codes mean low score and un-graded, respectively. A low score is a Language Arts-Writing test that has an essay score average below the acceptable average. Per GEDTS, any writing test with a failing essay average will result in a score of zero. The l/s code identifies the essay score as the cause. The u/g code is notification that an essay could not be scored because it is either blank, off topic, or the assigned topic could not be determined. If the assigned topic is unknown, our staff will fax a form to you in an attempt to identify the topic and resolve the score on the writing test.
