May 1, 2008 — Fati Ghanei and Raquel Field, Child Development Center teachers, were honored at The University of Texas at Austin’s 47th Annual Staff Recognition Program. Fati received a Staff Excellence Award, and Raquel received a 15-year Service Award.

Fati is our San Jacinto Butterflies teacher, and she has been with us since the center opened in 1991. Only 30 university employees receive Staff Excellence Awards each year, so Fati’s award is a true symbol of the significant impact she has had on the university community and on all the young Longhorns’ whose lives she has touched.

Raquel is our San Jacinto Panda Bears teacher, and the center has been privileged to have her as a member of our community since 1992. During her 15 years with us, she has taught toddlers and preschool-aged children, and even earned her associate’s degree in child development while teaching full time.

Sandy Briley, director of the Child Development Center, says, “We are so proud of Fati and Raquel for earning these distinctions. They are both such gifted teachers, and I constantly receive feedback from parents who say Fati and Raquel have made wonderful differences in their children’s lives.”

As Briley puts it, “Our whole community has such an appreciation for them… All the parents whose children have had Fati as their teacher are so grateful for the magic she shares every day in her classroom, and everyone I know is inspired by Raquel’s dedication and the way she truly enjoys being an educator of young children… Students, parents and staff members continue to learn so much from Fati and Raquel!”
