Edna Hayes 1961 - 2012
The UT Child Development Center is mourning the loss of one of our beloved teachers, Edna Hayes. Edna joined the University of Texas Child Development Center in 1996 as a lead toddler teacher at our Student Child Development Center. Edna was amazing from the start. She not only cared for and educated toddlers, but embraced the student parents who were carefully balancing school and parenthood. Although Edna joined us in 1996, she had been working with children since 1983. In addition to her years of experience, Edna held a Child Development Associate Credential, and in 2008 she received the Sallie Beth Moore Award from the Austin Association for the Education of Young Children.
Edna’s positive attitude, sense of humor, and compassion for others helped us all. Now we are left with a gap in our hearts. Edna is survived by her husband of 30 years, Ricky Hayes and daughters Jackie and Susan and son Kenny. We wish everyone well on their journey of healing, missing, and remembering.
In remembrance of Edna we are accepting donations to plant a memorial tree in front of the center. Donations can be made in person at either one of our locations or online.
