Announcing New Web Site for Best Practices in Teaching and More

August 8, 2007

The Research, Evaluation, and Assessment (REA) group within the Division of Instructional Innovation and Assessment has developed a unique online resource to guide faculty, staff, and students in best practices in evaluating programs, and assessing student learning, teaching effectiveness, and instructional technology—the Instructional Assessment Resources (IAR) Web site.

This comprehensive resource provides detailed information to systematically determine whether teaching strategies are meeting goals, how faculty can elicit valuable feedback from their students, and which technologies are most appropriate to achieve class objectives, among other topics.

REA group members lead you step-by-step through the assessment process—planning, gathering data, and analyzing and reporting results—explaining assessment methodology, presenting real-world examples, and describing helpful instructional tools, tables, and worksheets.

Through the IAR Web site, the REA group offers ideas about how to tailor University-wide data and classroom management systems to meet individual instructor needs and garner student feedback throughout the semester, such as the Ongoing Course Assessment (OCA), Blackboard, Course Instructor Surveys (CIS), and Classroom Performance Systems (CPS).
