“Exploritas” is unveiled as the new name for Elderhostel programs
“Exploritas” is the new name for the programs offered by Elderhostel, the not-for-profit, lifelong learning group often described as “the nation’s first, and the world’s largest, educational and travel organization for older adults.” Elderhostel has made the switch to “Exploritas” in effort to focus more on participants’ goals to “explore” the world and learn more about global traditions, cultures, arts, ideas, and history and, in so doing, discover more about themselves.
Founded in 1975, Elderhostel offers a unique, residential learning experience for participants with a wide range of interests in over 1,300 locations around the world. Exploritas provides adult learners with a variety of programs exploring history, culture, nature, music and crafts. Additionally, Exploritas now feature comfortable yet affordable accommodations, far beyond the 1975 namesake’s “hostels.”
As part of the national Elderhostel/Exploritas organization, Continuing and Innovative Education at The University of Texas at Austin provides residential learning programs in Austin, San Antonio, Houston and Kansas City, Kansas. Exploritas programs currently offered include “Exploring the Gulf Coast,” “Hiking in the Unspoiled Beauty of Big Bend” and “Birding West Texas and Northern Mexico’s Copper Canyon.”
