July 8, 2008

Jeff D. Treichel, CPA, has been named the new assistant dean for business affairs in Continuing & Innovative Education (CIE) at The University of Texas at Austin. In this position, Treichel will serve as chief business officer and compliance officer, overseeing all financial and human resource operations. He will also serve as a member of the Executive Leadership Council and the Dean’s Cabinet.  Treichel begins his appointment on June 23.

“I am delighted that Jeff Treichel is joining Continuing & Innovative Education,” states Dean Judy C. Ashcroft. “This position requires the highest levels of integrity, leadership and fiscal responsibility. We have found all of these strengths—and much more—in Jeff.”

“I’m very happy to come home to The University of Texas at Austin,” Treichel said. “Having earned my undergraduate degree here and then working 18 years for a variety of university offices, it’s very gratifying to be able to return to this great institution. I look forward to lending my experience to help grow Continuing & Innovative Education to its fullest potential.”

Treichel returns to the university after serving two years as director of finance and resource planning with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). In that role, Treichel was responsible for the direction and analysis of state appropriations, budgets and institutional annual reports on higher education financing and facilities. According to its Web site, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board was created by the Texas Legislature in 1965 to “provide leadership and coordination for the Texas higher education system to achieve excellence for the college education of Texas students.”

Prior to working for THECB, Treichel worked at The University of Texas at Austin for 18 years in a variety of management and finance positions. The colleges and departments he has worked for include the Office of Internal Audits; the College of Fine Arts; the Office of the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer; the Office of the Vice President for Employee and Campus Services; and the College of Education.

In addition to earning his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from The University of Texas at Austin, Treichel is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the state of Texas. He is also a member of the National Association of College and University Business Officers; the Texas Association of State Senior College & University Business Officers; and the Texas Society of CPAs.

Continuing & Innovative Education (CIE) is made up of the Division of Continuing Education (CE) and the Division of Instructional Innovation and Assessment (DIIA).  Formed in 1909, CE seeks to “extend the resources of the university to the people of Texas.” To reach this goal, the division offers a range of credit and non-credit courses, services and programs for people seeking educational and enrichment opportunities. DIIA provides services to enhance teaching effectiveness, expand assessment methods and support technology-enhanced learning.
