Judy Ashcroft Named Honorary Member of Senate of College Councils

April 24, 2008

Judy Ashcroft, dean of Continuing and Innovative Education (CIE) at The University of Texas at Austin has been named Honorary Member of the Senate of College Councils. This recognition comes as part of the Senate’s Resolution 411, passed during the Senate’s regular meeting on Thursday, April 13, 2008. Authored by Stephen Myers, Senate Chair, the resolution cites Dean Ashcroft’s 14 years of service at the university and her long-time support of the Senate and its members. The resolution also describes Ashcroft as an active proponent of the Senate’s efforts to increase awareness of the UT Honor Code and core values.

Resolution 411 outlines Ashcroft’s efforts in “mentoring numerous Senate leaders by providing visionary thought and supporting several of the Senate’s key initiatives, including IntegrityUT Week and the Faculty Appreciation Week’s Thank a Teacher programs.”

The honor represents the Senate’s “heartfelt thanks for the service and support that Dean Judy Ashcroft provides to The University of Texas…and her dedication to students and to the members, programs and initiatives of the Senate.”

During the meeting, a surprised Dean Ashcroft thanked the Senate for having the university’s academic future at heart. “The Senate is an important voice for academics at UT,” stated Dean Ashcroft. “I also applaud their efforts to do the research and make the necessary preparations to help their initiatives succeed. Time invested with the Senate always returns a benefit for UT and for me personally because I am always deeply inspired when working with these outstanding and committed student leaders.”

Dean Ashcroft then surprised Stephen Myers and Policy Chair Reid Long with 5-Star lapel pins in recognition of their excellent leadership.
