From October 25-28, 2008, Dean Judy Ashcroft led a delegation of Continuing and Innovative Education (CIE) professionals from The University of Texas at Austin to the University Continuing Education Association (UCEA) South Regional Conference. The conference adopted the theme “Engaging Our Communities: Innovation, Inclusion, Involvement” and convened on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Virginia. The conference included seventeen proposal presentations, three by CIE members:

- “CE Integration: Translating Community Engagement to Innovation in Higher Education” was presented by Associate Dean Jo Anne Shea of University Extension (UEX) and Sr. Associate Dean Linda Glessner.
- “Casual Monday: Meeting the Demands of the New Talent Market” was presented by Pat Schnee of the Professional Development Center (PDC).
- “Learning Outcome Assessments in Continuing Education Programs” was presented by a panel of CE professionals including Associate Dean Rob Bruce of the Division of Instructional Innovation and Assessment (DIIA). Other panelists included continuing education colleagues from the University of New Orleans, the University of South Carolina, and Louisiana State University.

These honors were presented October 27, 2008 at a special UCEA dinner and ceremony. Both recipients will be submitted for the national UCEA awards presented in April 2009.

The large and prestigious UCEA South includes colleges and universities in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and the Virgin Islands.
