December 21, 2007

The K-16 Education Center part of Continuing & Innovation Education at The University of Texas at Austin was recently honored by The University Continuing Education Association (UCEA) for their quality work on two programs. The K-16 Education Center won a Gold Award for their work on the Exemplary Migrant Student Ceremony event. They also won a Silver Award for their K-16 program catalog.

The Exemplary Migrant Student Ceremony honors exemplary students of the Migrant Student Graduation Enhancement Program. This program helps Texas-based certified migrant students earn high school credits through distance learning courses that can be completed anytime, anyplace. The K-16 Education Center program catalog provides easy-to-use information on the programs offered. Some of these programs include AskMe™ in the Classroom, research-based online high school courses for licensed schools and school districts, independent learners, and home school students; the LUCHA Program, an innovative program to help ease the transition for students immigrating to Texas from Latin America; and the UT High School Program, a flexible, accredited high school for independent learners to obtain a high school diploma.

Dr. Felipe Alanis is the associate dean and director of K-16 Education Center. Some of his dedicated team who contributed to the quality and usefulness of these programs are B.J. Gibson, Associate Director, Peggy Wimberley, Coordinator, Luz Hinojosa, Assistant Coordinator, and Kevin Rathge, Senior Graphic Designer.
