University Charter School Teacher Wins Excellence Award

Trisha Day, TeacherTrisha Day, an elementary science teacher at the Depelchin-Richmond School in Austin, Texas, has been selected as the recipient of the Barbara ten Brink Award for Excellence in Elementary Science Teaching. The award is presented annually by the Texas Council for Elementary Science, a professional organization affiliated with the National Science Teachers Association and the Council for Elementary Science International. The Texas Council for Elementary Science (TCES) is dedicated to promoting quality elementary science programs, providing staff development training, and supporting elementary teachers throughout the state of Texas.

Trisha was recognized at the TCES Annual Luncheon, held November 17th in Austin, during the Conference for the Advancement of Science Teaching. The award is presented annually to an elementary educator who has demonstrated exemplary abilities as a classroom teacher of science. Past awardees include a finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics. As part of the award honoring Trisha, she received a scholarship to attend the TCES Leadership Symposium in January 2008.
