O*NET OnLine was developed for the US Department of Labor to be a comprehensive site for career exploration. It's one of the DOL's better efforts. New features are added regularly.

Handbook
This Federal government publication contains job descriptions, salary,
job outlook, and educational requirements on over 200 occupations including:
Actors, Producers, Directors; Archivists, Curators, and Museum technicians;
Artists and Related Workers; College and University Faculty; Dancers and
Choreographers; Designers; Musicians, Singers, and Related Workers; Photographers.
HRC WorkNet
HRC WorkNet, an online resource maintained by the Human Rights Campaign,
is a national source of information on workplace policies and laws surrounding
sexual orientation and gender identity. Job seekers can use HRC WorkNet
data to do research on prospective employers by name, policy type, geographic
region, or industry.
