The work of Michel Foucault has been casting a long shadow in the humanities for decades. Ethnomusicology, by contrast, with only a handful of exceptions has been slow in recognizing the relevance of Foucault's work for exploring the interconnections between desire, governmentality, knowledge and music in societies outside the West. The course introduces students to some of Foucault's works.
