Why do the hours add up to so many in the 'lacking' column?

Do not add all the hours lacking. If you add all the hours in the lacking column, it takes you above the 120 hours needed for a degree. Some courses may count toward more than one requirement. For example, if you need an upper-division writing component course and you also still need to meet the general upper-division hours requirement, the one course will count toward both requirements.
