Asian American Community Leadership Awards recognize outstanding Austin community members

The Network of Asian American Organizations, the Honorable Dr. Martha Jee Wong, Mr. Ali Raza Khataw, Dr. George C. Chang and Dr. Mitchel Wong were honored at The Asian American Community Leadership Awards held May 11 at the Etter-Harbin Alumni Center on The University of Texas at Austin campus.

The Division of Diversity and Community Engagement  (DDCE), the Texas Exes Asian Alumni Network and the Center for Asian American Studies sponsored the ceremony, recognizing the important roles that Asians and Asian Americans play in Central Texas.

The Network of Asian American Organizations, led by local businessman Channy Soeur, received the Community Partnership Award for its efforts the past 15 years as leading service and information network that unites and promotes the growing Asian American community.

Community Leadership Circle Awards were given to former State Representative Dr. Martha Jee Wong, Dr. George Chang, known as the “Father of Asian American employees of the City of Austin,” and Mr. Ali Raza Khataw, CEO of Enotech Engineering Consultants. Native Austinite Dr. Mitchel Wong, founder of Austin Eye, received the Legacy Award his many efforts in the Austin community, including his work as one of the founders of the Texan Asian Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Ali Raza Khataw, Dr. Martha Jee Wong and Dr. Mitchel Wong are graduates of The University of Texas at Austin.
