Major General Chiarelli Visits Longhorn Battalion

MG spoke about military's role in helping to rebuild Iraq, among other topics

The day after Veteran's Day, Major General Peter W. Chiarelli visited with University of Texas Army ROTC cadets and alumni of the program. MG Chiarelli spoke to the cadets over the course of an hour on some of the difficulties that they are likely to face when deployed to Iraq. He focused and emphasized how the military's task is so much more complex than just fighting and training others to fight. It is now our responsibility to rebuild the city, starting with the infrastructure. At the conclusion of his presentation cadets and alumni were allowed to ask MG Chiarelli about his experiences in Baghdad.


Longhorn Battalion Runs Game Ball to College Station

Following tradition, cadets from the Army ROTC ran the official game ball for the Texas Shootout from Austin to College Station

Last week, cadets of the Longhorn Battalion had the distinct honor of transporting the official game ball for the in state rivalry from Austin to College Station ... on foot. That's right: the highly motivated cadets proudly received the game ball from UT head football coach Mack Brown and ran it all 107 miles from Darrel K Royal Memorial Stadium in Austin to Kyle Field in College Station.

On October 14 the Army ROTC held a fundraiser to raise money for the Red Cross. With two tables for collecting donations, a number of dedicated cadets, and the generosity of UT students and staff, the event was a huge success. At the end of the day Army ROTC raised almost $400 to support the people affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Cadets of the Longhorn Battalion departed from campus 13OCT2005 to nearby Camp Mabry for a weapons familiarization lab. Obviously, as weapons play a large role in the US Army, for this reason the cadets were very eager to learn.

Cadets of the Longhorn Battalion departed from campus 30SEP2005 with one destination in mind: Camp Bullis. Every fall semester cadets head to the San Antonio camp to conduct exciting training. This year was no different. After much hard work behind the scenes, cadets enjoy this opportunity to escape the distractions and rigors of the academic realm to focus on training.

After a long break, cadets return to school early to prepare for the upcoming fall semester.

Cadets of the Longhorn Battalion recently began orientations for the upcoming semester. Orientation dates were determined by year group. MS IV's had the first orientation on Friday, 26 August. The Cadet Chain-of-Command was established, and all necessary administrative work was done.
