My Whispering Plan (Sharen jihua, dir. Qu Youning, aka Arthur Chu, TAIWAN, 2002)

Set in Taipei's Baozangyan slum, the film explores the friendship between introverted plain-looking Jane and beautiful Miss Sunshine Sunny. As first, inseparable best friends who share all of their deepest secrets, Jane's jealousy of her pretty friend drives her to a deep and possessive jealousy tainted by murder fantasies.

The film series (Fridays, Feb. 5th through March 5th) is part of the upcoming two-day East Asian Cinemas Symposium (March 6th and 7th) bringing together scholars working on the national cinemas of China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan.

All films subtitled and all events free and open to the public.
