Graduate Students Celebrate Graduation

Karline McLain graduated with her Ph.D. in Asian Cultures and Languages on May 21, and has accepted a tenure-track position at Bucknell University. She is one of four students at UT Austin to receive the prestigious Outstanding Dissertation Award sponsored by the Office of Graduate Studies, in honor of her dissertation entitled "Whose Immortal Picture Stories?: Amar Chitra Katha and the Construction of Indian Identities."

Jarrod Whitaker graduated with his Ph.D. in Asian Cultures and Language on May 21, and has accepted a tenure-track position at Wake Forest University. His dissertation is entitled "Drinking Status, Wearing Duty: Magic, Power, and Warrior Ethics in Ancient India." Jarrod will continue to work in the Department of Asian Studies this summer as part of a team developing online resource material on Asia.

Congratulations to Tracy Buck, Marguerite Cauble, Elliott McCarter, Ahmed Moin, Betty Nguyen, and Eun Sook Seo on completion of their Masters degrees.
