To highlight the history of South Asian Americans in Austin, we invite you to join us for a special reception on Tuesday, April 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the David Earl Holt Photo Gallery at the Austin History Center, 810 Guadalupe St. The reception is presented by the Austin History Center with assistance from the Center for Asian American Studies and South Asia Institute at the University of Texas at Austin and AsianAustin.com. It is free and open to the public.
The reception will celebrate the accomplishments of the South Asian Migration class at The University of Texas at Austin, which conducted oral history interviews in the fall of 2011. Many of these oral history recordings and transcripts of local South Asian Americans will be preserved at the Austin History Center. We will present a program to give students and participants a chance to share their stories as well as their experiences throughout the interview process. The reception will serve as an educational opportunity to learn more about our rapidly growing South Asian population and also encourage the local community to make further donation of materials to the Austin History Center for research and preservation purposes.
