South Asian American Digital Archive Lecture & Reception with Samip Mallick
Tue, April 9, 2013 • 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM • Austin History Center, 810 Guadalupe St.
The South Asian American Digital Archive (SAADA) is an independent non-profit organization working to document, preserve and provide access to South Asian American history through a digital-only archive.
Very few materials related to South Asian American history are currently included in archival repositories or known to the public. The archival materials available are spread widely in collections across the country, making it difficult even for individual researchers to access the materials they need for their work and especially difficult for undergraduates and members of the community to consult them.
SAADA's Co-Founder & Executive Director, Samip Mallick, will present on archives and their role in society, SAADA's innovative approach to archiving and share stories from the South Asian American community collected by SAADA over the last four years.
Hosted by the Center for Asian American Studies and co-sponsored with the Austin History Center, Asian American Resource Center, Network of Asian American Organizations and the South Asia Institute.
