Requirements for the Bachelor of Arts in Asian American Studies

General Area Requirements:

To earn a degree in Asian American Studies each student must complete the area requirements for Liberal Arts. Degree plans are available online.

Major Requirements:

The undergraduate Asian American Studies major in the College of Liberal Arts requires 24 semester hours of coursework in addition to all other Liberal Arts area requirements.

  1. 3 hours specified Asian American Studies: AAS 301.

  2. 9 hours in Asian American Studies. At least one course in each of the following: Culture, Literature or Media Studies Economics, History or Government Anthropology, Geography or Sociology

  3. 12 additional hours of Asian American Studies

  4. At least 18 out of 24 total hours must be upper-division.

Minor Requirements:

A minor consists of 12 semester hours, including at least 6 hours of upper-division coursework, in any one field of study other than Asian American Studies. 6 of the required 12 hours for the minor must be taken in residence.
