AI/TA Opportunities

The Center for Asian American Studies seeks Assistant Instructors (AIs) and Lecturers for the 2010-2011 academic year. We are especially seeking AIs for the following:
  • Introduction to Asian American History
  • Asian American Religions
  • Asian American Mental Health OR Psychological Perspectives on
  • Asian American Identity
  • Mixed-Race Identity in the U.S.
  • Asian Americans in the Media
  • Courses exploring single ethnic group cultures, communities, and histories
  • Additional 3-hour courses in any Asian American Studies topic or discipline

The standard COLA salary is $8,030 per semester, with $3,566 in tuition assistance (based off of 2009-2010 budget).

All applicants must have at least an M.A. in a related field, be enrolled for 9 hours for the semester appointed with a G.P.A. of at least 3.0, and have credit for 398T. In addition, applicants need at least one semester of prior experience as a Teaching Assistant. See the link below for additional conditions for employment:

AI positions are reserved for graduate students. AIs can generally only teach lower-division courses. Upper-division classes may be taught by lecturers. The open topic classes can be cross-racial and cross-disciplinary, but must have 85-90% "Asian American Content."
