Sixty Years of Integration: Civil Rights Then and Now
is the theme of the 24th Annual Heman Sweatt Symposium on Civil Rights to held April 22-23 on the University of Texas at Austin campus. The symposium will reflect on the history and progress of civil rights at UT, and what the future might bring. A highlight of the symposium will be “Historic Conversations: Sitting at the Knees of Our Elders,” a panel discussion that includes some of the first African American students to be admitted to the university. Dr. Raymond Johnson, a UT alum who attended graduate school at Rice University and was the first African American to graduate from Rice University, will provide the keynote.
