Based on Johnson's interviews of more than 70 Black gay southern men, Sweet Tea explores the relationship between Blackness, sexuality and southern life.

The World Premiere of Sweet Tea was produced in May 2010 by Jane M. Saks, the Ellen Stone Belic Institute for the Study of Women & Gender in the Arts & Media, and About Face Theatre.
