Biography: Gwendolyn DuBois Shaw
Gwendolyn DuBois Shaw is Associate Professor of History of Art at the University of Pennsylvania. She received her PhD in American art from Stanford University in 2000 and subsequently served as an assistant professor at Harvard University for five years. In 2004 she published her first book, Seeing the Unspeakable: The Art of Kara Walker, with Duke University Press. Her second book, Portraits of a People: Picturing African Americans in the Nineteenth
