Dear Warfield Center Community,

Please join me in congratulating our own Director, Dr. Omi Osun Joni L. Jones, Director of the John L. Warfield Center for African and African American Studies. She has just been named by President Powers as the recipient of the 2010 Civitatis Award. The Civitatis Award is one of the highest honors bestowed to members of the University community. The award, to be officially presented at a special dinner in February, recognizes Omi's distinguished career and exceptional service to the University of Texas at Austin.

For the past decade, we Warfield Center affiliates have witnessed at close range Omi's passion for social justice, her unwavering dedication to research in Black Studies, and her persistent advocacy for the arts, on campus and in the wider community. It comes as no surprise that the University has chosen to recognize her extraordinary contributions as well.

We will celebrate in due course!

Best wishes,

Shirley
