More about BSSAC
The Black Studies Student Advisory Committee (BSSAC) is an organization that opens up lines of communication between the student body and the three units of the Black Studies Suite, which include the African and African Diaspora Studies (AADS) Department, the John L. Warfield Center for African and African American Studies (WCAAAS), and the Institute for Urban Policy and Research Analysis (IUPRA). BSSAC enables students in the UT Black community to communicate their needs and concerns to campus leaders in order for their voices to be heard and acted upon.
Membership into BSSAC is open to all UT students who are interested in becoming involved with issues in the Black student community and the Black Studies Suite. Interested students must submit an application and be in good academic standing at the University of Texas.
BSSAC contributes to programming at the university by hosting a series of annual events. These events include the Black Studies Open House, which occurs in the Spring and Fall semesters of each year to introduce students, faculty, and staff to the functions and resources of the Black Studies Suite. BSSAC also hosts the annual Black Essence Awards, a ceremony that rewards students and student organizations who work in concert with Black students at UT for their hard work and dedication.
