CASA offers advanced level training in Arabic language and culture to qualified American students at its two locations at the American University in Cairo, Egypt and at the University of Damascus, Syria. Applicants to the various CASA programs must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and should have completed a minimum of 3 years of formal instruction in Arabic prior to joining CASA. Our website provides detailed information regarding the various aspects of the CASA programs. We welcome you to visit the site and learn more about the exciting programs CASA offers. CASA Alumna Named Provost of The American University in Cairo
April 15, 2008, Cairo -- The American University in Cairo (AUC) today announced the appointment of Columbia University Professor Lisa Anderson, a specialist on politics in the Middle East and North Africa, as its next provost. Dr. Anderson succeeds Dr. Earl (Tim) Sullivan who has been AUC provost since 1998 and professor of political science at AUC since 1973.

CASA receives two grants for its programs in Cairo and Damascus
CASA is happy to announce that it has received funding from the United States Department of Education under the Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad Program to continue its program at the American University in Cairo and expand its program at the University of Damascus in Syria. This funding is for a four-year period (2008-2012) and will allow CASA to continue its mission of providing quality training in Arabic language and culture, expand its programs, and offer more fellowships to advanced level learners of Arabic in the future.

CASA Inaugurates its new full-year program in Damascus
CASA is happy to announce that its new full-year program in Damscus, Syria was launched successfully in June 2007 and is now fully operational. The first CASA Damascus cohort includes 8 fellows who will be pursuing a one-year program similar to the full year CASA program in Cairo, Egypt. The new CASA Damascus program is housed at the Language Center at the University of Damascus.
