Welcome! Ahlan wa Sahlan!

Ahlan wa Sahlan wa MarHaban bi-kum to the official website for the Center for Arabic Study Abroad (CASA).

The University of Texas at Austin has generously hosted the CASA program for the past 8 years, and is now passing the baton to Harvard University. The Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Harvard, with Nevenka Korica Sullivan as the CASA Director, is honored to be the new host of the program. During this transition we will continue to use the UT website while a new site is being constructed. Please use this site for learning about the program components and procedures, but see this page for upcoming program dates, deadlines, and other updates from Harvard for the coming year.

CASA offers advanced level training in Arabic language and culture to qualified American students at The American University in Cairo and Qasid Arabic Institute in Amman. Applicants to the various CASA programs must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and with a minimum of 3 years of formal instruction in Arabic prior to joining CASA. Our website provides detailed information regarding the various aspects of the CASA programs. We welcome you to visit the site and learn more about the exciting programs CASA offers.  If you have questions after reviewing the site, please contact the CASA administrative office located at Harvard University.

Ahlan wa Sahlanand we look forward to welcoming you to CASA very soon inshaa’allaah!

NOTE TO PROSPECTIVE 2015-2016 APPLICANTS

Due to the ongoing political events in Egypt, the current CASA I program has remained at the Qasid Institute in Amman, Jordan for the 2014-15 summer, fall and spring semesters.

Our goal is to return to The American University in Cairo for the 2015-16 academic year; however, this will depend on the Harvard Global Support Services assessment of the security situation in Egypt.  Harvard Global Support Services will continue to monitor events in Egypt and we will ensure that all fellows, prospective applicants and CASA partners are kept informed of our plans for the upcoming application year.

For now we encourage all people interested in the 2015-2016 CASA I Full Year program, to apply once this year's application has been posted.  Please refer to Harvard’s website for the new application details by early October.  Please note that the CASA II program was suspended due to funding and we are working on resuming it as soon as possible.

Thank you for your continued support and please contact our office with further questions or concerns.
