Faculty Research Fellowships
The Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS) sponsors a Faculty Research Fellowship competition pursuant to its research mission on the history, society and culture of the people of Mexican origin residing in the United States. The fellowship awards are for Fall 2012 and Spring 2013.
Purpose
The objective of a CMAS Faculty Research Fellowship is initiation, furtherance, or completion of a specific research project to strengthen and support the mission of the Center. These awards may be used for travel, books, assistants, equipment and/or other research needs.Eligibility
CMAS is vitally interested
in increasing the number of full professors affiliated with the Center. Thus, this fellowship will give
preference to UT Austin faculty at the rank of Associate Professor who have demonstrated
service to CMAS and its mission, and who have been at The University of Texas
at Austin for at least one full academic year. Application Procedures
Faculty
interested in applying for a CMAS Faculty Fellowship should discuss the terms
of the award with their department chairs. An applicant's chair must then agree
to the terms of the one semester leave.
In some cases, prior approval of the academic
dean will be necessary, especially from faculty outside of the College of
Liberal Arts. If awarded a
fellowship, the faculty member must submit and receive approval for a Faculty
Request for Leave with a copy of final approval provided to our office. Faculty must submit the CMAS Faculty Fellowship Award Application and required attachments/materials by the application deadline.Additional Requirements
All fellows are required to present their funded research as part of the CMAS Faculty Research Plática Series during the 2012-2013 academic year. Fellows are also required to acknowledge CMAS funding in publications that arise from the research supported by this award.
Method of Payment
CMAS Faculty Research Fellowships are salary awards paid through the Payroll Office. These awards are subject to all of the deductions as required by state and federal law and other such deductions as you may authorize. CMAS will account for these deductions in calculating award amounts.
Please contact Senior Administrative Associate, Johannah Hochhalter, (512) 475-6973 or johannah@mail.utexas.edu, concerning payments schedules and information.
