Siglo XXI Modern Movimientos Danza: A Symposium on Chicano Dance
Posted: October 15, 2009
The "Siglo XXI Modern Movimientos Danza: A Symposium on Chicano Dance" is designed to bring together artists, scholars, and students in a shared conversation that examines, embodies, and exhibits new directions in dance that reflects and represents today’s Mexican-American/Chicano culture. The symposium will query what are the new dance stories/practices, how are they conceived/constructed/presented, and how do they resonate within the fields of practitioners, scholars, viewers, community, and the field of dance in general.
The two-day symposium will feature scholarly pláticas, dance workshops, live performances, and a shared social convivencia/dance that will give attendees and participants a brief moment and opportunity to experience these new practices.
By bringing together and showcasing a diverse range of dance and dance scholarship we aim to create a movement oriented environment that allows us to learn from each other, and about ourselves, enabling and encouraging new creative capacities and critical insights for the continued development of Mexican-American/Chicano dance, body, culture, and community.
All events are free and open to the public.
