CMAS Announces 2011 George I. Sánchez Memorial Lectures in the Social Sciences and Education

The Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS) will host the 2011 George I. Sánchez Memorial Lectures in the Social Sciences and Education on Thursday, April 21, 2011. The lectures will take place in the Lone Star Room (UNB 3.208) of the Texas Union on the campus of The University of Texas at Austin. The lectures begin at 5:30 pm.
The George I. Sánchez Memorial Lectures in the Social Sciences and Education are presented by CMAS faculty associates who are either in their first year of service at the University or who have been recently promoted to associate or full professor.
Diasporic Community Knowledge and School Absenteeism: Mexican Immigrant Pueblo Parents' and Grandparents' Postcolonial Ways of Educating Their U.S.-born Children by Luis Urrieta, Jr., Associate Professor, Department of Curriculum and Instruction.
Field Work & Field Life Among the Ancient Maya by Fred Valdez, Jr., Professor, Department of Anthropology.
Refreshments will follow lectures.
