The Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS) is pleased to announce a reorganization of the Américo Paredes Endowed Scholarship effective the spring semester 2013.
A world-renowned scholar of folklore and the U.S./Mexico Borderlands, Américo Paredes established an intellectual and institutional legacy that endures to this day. A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, Professor Paredes was instrumental in the founding of CMAS and served as its first director. The Américo Paredes Endowed Scholarship was established to honor his lasting impact on students and the academy.
Given Professor Paredes commitment to activism, research, and social justice, three types of awards will be made available to students in the following categories: 1) the U.S./Mexico Borderlands Research Award; 2) the Change in Circumstance Award and 3) the Community Service and Training Award.
