Award-winning poets, Sandra María Esteves and Rodrigo Toscano, will read from their poetry on Friday, July 17, 2015, (Rodrigo Toscano) and Saturday, July 18, 2015, (Sandra María Esteves) at the Black Box Theater of the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center (600 River Street, Austin, Texas). In addition, each evening will feature 15 Latina/o poets from across the country who will also read briefly from their poetry. The event is free and open to the public.
Parking at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center is available through parking meters surrounding the grounds of the center.
This public reading is being organized by CantoMundo, a national poetry workshop dedicated to supporting and developing Latina/o poets and poetry. CantoMundo provides a space where Latina/o poets can nurture and enhance their poetics; lecture and learn about aspects of Latina/o poetics currently not being discussed by the mainstream publishers and critics; and network with peer poets to enrich and further disseminate Latina/o poetry.
CantoMundo 2015 is sponsored by the Center for Mexican American Studies and the Department of English.
