Partnerships
The Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS) has established a number of partnerships with various organizations that engage and examine the Mexican American and Latino experience in Austin, the state of Texas, and the United States.
Emma A. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center — Sponsored by the City of Austin, the MACC is dedicated to the preservation, creation, presentation, and promotion of Mexican American, Chicano, Native American, and other Latino cultures.
CantoMundo — A national non-profit organization that provides a space for the creation, documentation, and critical analysis of Latina/o poetry through workshops, symposia, and public readings.
Community Engagement Center — A unit of the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement that promotes and coordinates services, learning opportunities, and research for communities historically underserved by The University of Texas at Austin.
Inter University Program for Latino Research — A national consortium of university-based centers dedicated to the advancement of the Latino intellectual presence in the United States.
Irma Rangel Public Policy Institute — A research unit of the Department of Government at The University of Texas at Austin, which focuses on public policy issues salient to the state of Texas.
La Peña — A local non-profit organization in Austin, Texas dedicated to the preservation, development and promotion of Latino artistic expression in all its forms.
La Voz Newspapers — A network of bilingual publications in Central Texas focusing on education, employment, and entrepreneurship.
Mexic-Arte Museum — A local non-profit organization in Austin, Texas dedicated to cultural enrichment and education through the presentation of traditional and contemporary Mexican, Latino, and Latin American art and culture.
National Association for Chicana and Chicano Studies — A national organization that serves academic programs, departments and research centers that focus on issues pertaining to Mexican Americans, Chicana/os, and Latina/os.
Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection — A unit of the University of Texas Libraries, the Benson Latin American Collection is a specialized research library focusing on materials from and about Latin America, and on materials relating to Latinos in the United States.
People Organized in Defense of the Earth and her Resources — A local non-profit organization in Austin, Texas committed to redefining environmental issues as social and economic issues.
Resistencia Bookstore — A local neighborhood bookstore in Austin, Texas that specializes in various literary genres, provides community meeting space, and is the home to Red Salmon Arts and Red Salmon Press.
Teresa Lozano Long Institute for Latin American Studies —An academic unit in the College of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas at Austin dedicated to academic scholarship and intellectual exchange that enhances the appreciation and understanding of Latin American society, history, and culture.
Texas After Violence Project — A local non-profit organization in Austin, Texas that conducts qualitative research, primarily using oral histories, on the effects of violence, incarceration, and the death penalty in Texas.
Texas Center for Educational Policy — A research unit in the College of Education at The University of Texas at Austin that brings researchers together whose work has a direct bearing on current policy issues in education.The Serie Project — A local non-profit organization in Austin, Texas that produces, promotes, and exhibits serigraph prints created by established and emerging artists.
Voces Oral History Project — A project documenting the contributions of Latinas/os of the WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam War generations. Housed in the College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin.
