Sam Z. Coronado Student Poster Art Scholarship ContestThe Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS) is proud to announce the Sam Z. Coronado Student Poster Art Scholarship Contest. We invite all full-time enrolled undergraduate and graduate students at The University of Texas at Austin to submit a poster design that captures the spirit of the Center for Mexican American Studies. The theme for this year is, "Language in las Americas."
The Sam Z. Coronado Student Poster Art Scholarship Committee asks that students consdier the following questions in creating their entries: What is the role of language in Mexican American and Latina/o communities in the United States? What is the power of bilingualism and/or Spanglish? How are language and bilingualism essential to excellence in the third millenium?
Scholarship awards will be granted in the amounts of $1000 for First Prize, $750 for Second Prize and $500 for Third Prize. The winning entry will have a limited edition of 20 prints produced and framed for permanent display at CMAS. The First Prize winner will receive 10 prints.
Entries can be submitted as original hard copy or digital design. Artists should submit entries in electronic form to Dr. Nicole Guidotti-Hernández, CMAS Associate Director, or in hard copy to the CMAS office on the 5th Floor of the West Mall Building.
Artists must adhere to the following specifications in submission design:
For all submissions:
Maximum image size 16 X 22 inches vertical or horizontal.
Maximum three colors on white paper/background/support.
For original digital images:
Must be at least 300 dpi.
Text must be bold and no smaller than 12 point.
For original paintings:
Must be accompanied by .jpeg or .pdf image of the work.
The deadline for submissions will be announced at a later date.
Please note that the winning entry becomes the sole property of CMAS and that students may submit multiple entries but that only place once.
