Public Programming
The Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS) offers an extensive public programming calendar that enables the University and the community at-large to learn more about Mexican American culture and scholarship. These events include:Américo Paredes Distinguished Lecture Series - An annual presentation given by an eminent professional or scholar in Mexican American Studies.
Art Exhibitions - Visual art exhibits that are centered on social justice issues and the Mexican American experience.
CMAS Graduation – An annual event that celebrates the accomplishments of participating student graduates and allows them to recognize their family and friends. The event includes a graduation ceremony and reception.
Conferences – Frequently schedule events such as the Abriendo Brecha Activist Scholarship conference and Inter-University Program for Latino Research (IUPLR) Siglo XXI Biennial conference.
Día de la Raza - An annual celebration in the customs of floricanto that aims to honor and acknowledge the importance of reclaiming our indigenous heritage in the United States.
George I. Sánchez Memorial Lecture Series - An annual presentation given by a new or recently promoted faculty associate of CMAS in the social sciences and education.
Jovita González Memorial Lecture Series - An annual presentation given by a new or recently promoted faculty associate of CMAS in the arts and humanities.
Musical concerts – Frequently scheduled performances by legendary Mexican American and/or Latino artists.
Pláticas Series - Informal talks by CMAS faculty associates, graduate students, and visiting scholars.
PláticArte Series - Informal gatherings featuring performance and visual artists, as well as writers and musicians.
Race, Class, and Gender Formation in the Borderlands Lecture - A semi-annual lecture organized by graduate students in Mexican American Studies.
