Dorothy and Rudy Martinez Family Scholarship in Mexican American Studies

The Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS) at The University of Texas at Austin is pleased to announce the establishment of its first undergraduate scholarship. Through the generosity of UT alumnus Mike Martinez, founding partner of Edge Resources in Ft. Worth, CMAS will award an annual scholarship in the name of Mr. Martinez’s parents, Dorothy and Rudy.

The Dorothy and Rudy Martinez Family Scholarship in Mexican American Studies (an award of $500) will be given to an outstanding student majoring in Mexican American Studies and will be presented at CMAS’ annual graduation ceremony. Recipients are required to attend the ceremony and will have their names engraved on an award plaque that will hang in the CMAS main office.

Students interested in applying must have a minimum grade point average of 2.50 and be enrolled as a Mexican American Studies major for the coming academic year.  Applicants must submit a two-page essay that examines the growing Mexican American /Latino High School dropout rate and includes what the applicant thinks can be done about the problem. The essay must be submitted electronically to Natasha Saldana, CMAS Undergraduate Program Coordinator, by the application deadline.  The deadline for applications will be announced at a later date.

Please note that this scholarship will be considered part of a financial aid package at UT Austin and must be reported to the Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS).
