Your advisor provides information about the degree plan, course descriptions, possible careers, and internships; assists in the add/drop process; and offers one-on-one counseling in academic and related issues. The office is open year-round. Call or email for an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome between 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. We encourage you to visit your advisor regularly.
Through academic advising we address a basic question: What can I do with a degree in Mexican American studies? We discuss the numerous graduate and professional school and career opportunities that are provided by an MAS degree. Students are introduced to the job-market options available to them, including careers in government and public service, law, teaching and academia, business, and non-profit institutions. We also counsel and advise students in developing their individual degree plan so that it will prepare them most effectively for the career they choose.
Pre-Registration Advising is required for all MAS majors.
One of the best tools for advising is an advising audit. This is a computer-generated list of all your classes, as they apply to your degree plan.
