Alberto Martinez: "Einstein, Relativity, and Myths"

Thu, October 18, 2012 • 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM • WEL 3.502

Alberto Martinez, Associate Professor, Department of History, The University of Texas at Austin

In 1905, Albert Einstein, an unknown, third-class clerk at the Swiss Federal Office for Intellectual Property solved outstanding problems in physics by proposing a theory about the relativity of time. Einstein's original paper became immensely influential in physics and other fields. Martinez will discuss how Einstein's relativity paper of 1905 changed physics and how it also led to misinterpretations and myths.
