Western Civ. Now Accepting Applications for Post-doctoral Fellowships
Deadline for submission: December 1, 2008.
The Program in Western Civilization and American Institutions invites applications for three post-doctoral fellowships.
Fellows will be appointed for one academic year, performing a combination of scholarship and the preparation and teaching of Great Books seminars.
Applicants may come from a variety of backgrounds, including political science, classics, philosophy, history, English and/or other social sciences and humanities disciplines. Candidates are selected on the basis of their scholarly potential and skill and interest in teaching in a great texts program. Recipients must have a Ph.D., may not hold a tenured position.
The initial term of appointment is August 26, 2009- May 31, 2010. The stipend is $37,500. The deadline for applications is December 1, 2008. Selections will be announced in March.
Please send one copy each of: a CV, a letter explaining research interests and plans, a statement of your interest in teaching the Great Books in a multi-disciplinary setting, evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching, and a research paper or other suitable evidence of scholarship. Three letters of reference, in sealed envelopes, should be enclosed within the application.
